High School Marine Biology

Course Description: A one (1)-credit high school course, exploring the wonders of marine life and habitation in the context of God’s creation. Our studies will include plate tectonics, salinity & density, waves, tides, and other physical characteristics-before studying sea creatures and the different types of ocean zones. Afterwards, we will venture into the first four kingdoms (Monera, Protista, Fungi, and Plantae), marine invertebrates, marine vertebrates, marine ecology, the intertidal zone, estuary communities, coral reefs, continental shelf communities, the deep ocean, and more. This course will correlate hands-on experience with academic learning through various methods.
Instructor: Catie Lumpkin
Mrs. Lumpkin began a hobby of studying marine life and biology with her grandfather - when she was five years old. Sheearned her bachelor’s degrees in English and journalism at the University of Alabama. Her graduate degree work is in secondary education. She has 21 years of teaching experience in grade levels first through twelfth. She delights in partnering families who have been called to home educate.
