Coronavirus / COVID-19 Response (Update 3/26/2020)

To the ECS Community,

As many of you have heard by now, Governor Kay Ivey, along with the Alabama Department of Education, has made a ruling that due to the impact and public health concerns related to the Coronavirus Alabama public schools will not be returning to school for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. This means that all public school activities and events are canceled. They will instead be employing alternate methods of instruction in order to complete the school year.

While ECS in particular and homeschoolers in general, maintain autonomy from the public education system, we strive to be good citizens of the Kingdom and of our country and state. Therefore, in the best interest of the community as a whole, and with deep sadness for the effect this decision will have on the end of year events for students and families, (and especially ECS seniors), we are convinced that wisdom, prudence, and compassion for our families, communities, state, country, (and even the world), requires us to respond accordingly. Therefore, ALL school events for the remainder of the school year will have to be canceled.

Although we all miss the enrichment that ECS activities, events, and fellowship with friends and other families bring, it is our prayer that we will all thrive under the mercy of our great God during these days of extended time communing with those in our homes. As you continue working through your selected curriculum for the school year the June 15 (May 12 for seniors) final report card submission date remains in place. With the reporting of a successful school year, your students will be promoted to the next grade level as usual.

In conclusion, although we wanted to provide you with a timely update following the announcement of the governor, we further want to assure you that the school board and administration have been praying about the possibility of this occurrence over the last two weeks. And now that this decision has been made, we will continue to pray and seek to walk faithfully through these unprecedented days. Also, be assured that additional updates are coming regarding canceled events that impact the 2020-21 school year, (such as athletic tryouts), along with special updates for our seniors, the class of 2020. We appreciate your patience thus far and ongoing as we all walk through these days together, physically separated but joined together in community and in Lord and Savior.

We serve a sovereign and loving God and rest in His grace, mercy, and comfort to guide us all as we share in His love and compassion for each other and our fellow citizens. We trust that Jesus will be glorified in these days in amazing ways. He works all things according to His plans and for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

Coronavirus / COVID-19 Response

To the ECS Community,

Following is the response of Evangel Christian School to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and our immediate plans for the spring semester.

All school events—classes, standardized testing, athletic, theater, music, etc.--are canceled; (or, when feasible, postponed).
For events that can feasibly be postponed, (i.e., moved to a later date), we will provide those details as they become available.
In accordance with national, state, and local decisions, we are hoping to resume a normal schedule by Monday, April 6, 2020.
We will update you if any changes occur affecting the projected April 6 schedule resumption date.
In the meantime, for all of your communication needs with the school office, please use email since phones cannot be regularly monitored.

These are, obviously, dramatic steps that will cause significant disruption and disappointments for many in our community. However, we feel obliged to take these steps in light of recent developments, both global and local, and in light of the counsel of public health officials, and Evangel Church.

We feel extremely blessed that, as homeschoolers, and with the blessing of electronic communication, much of what we do will be able to continue as normal. We thank the Lord for this provision and that we might be one of the least affected groups in the world right now to be able to fulfill the calling that God has placed upon us for educating our children.

For those of you who have previously scheduled meetings with Mrs. Snuggs, those will have to be postponed. We will be corresponding with you individually by email to reschedule these meetings as soon as possible.

We realize that, for some of you, this decision has an inestimable impact on your plans and will cause a reevaluation of how to proceed with the education of your children. To that end, we are providing this link to many additional resources that we hope might be of assistance in this adjustment period.

While the challenge posed by the COVID-19 outbreak is unique, this is not the first difficult situation ECS has faced. Through all of those situations, our school board has remained faithful and steadfast, praying for God’s provision and laboring diligently in support of the school’s mission of exploring and expressing the preeminence of Christ in all things. By God’s grace, we pray that we all will be found faithful and that our Savior and King would be glorified through how we, as a community, care for one another and respond to this challenge.

Early ReEnrollment now open

Early ReEnrollment is now available. ReEnroll for the 2020-2021 school year before April 30 and save money!

(Remember that in order to be eligible to participate in any of the spring tryouts (or football spring training), you must be enrolled for the 2020-21 school year.)

Contact information for each instructor is also available. Contact the individual instructor for details to register for their class.

Key Club needs Evangel parents

Our Evangel Key Club enrollment has grown to the point of needing more adult involvement! Key Club is one of Evangel's most important organizations and, thankfully, our student involvement has grown to the point that our students need some more Evangel parents to get involved.
